recap: {berlin}

i visited berlin for the first time last week and it has quickly become one of my favorite places. the city is full of imposing buildings, communist charm, and that brooklyn ease. for the first two days of our trip my aunt and cousin joined us, which made this extra special. we took an evening boat tour, walked around the old city, and had one of the best vegetarian dinners ever. on our second day we spent the greater part touring jewish berlin and this was particularly emotional. for the next two days my mom and i divided our time strolling the prenzlauer berg, kreuzberg, and neukölln neighborhoods–drinking lots of coffee, admiring the architecture, and people watching. i was completely overwhelmed by how cool berlin truly is. there is so much to do and see and i cannot wait until i can go back. and now let me barrage you with my photos!

saying goodbye to los angeles was difficult, to say the least. i might have even whined a bit when my mom and i left urth in hopes of avoiding the infamous traffic on the 405. deciding what to do on your last day isn’t easy but when you have a lot of time, it’s certainly easier. my mom and i like to do all of the same things and have similar travel styles so we get to do a fun mix of shmying, site seeing, eating, and just being. until next time los angeles!

griddle cafe, urth cafe, larchmont bungalow, ‘lette, and fred 62.

la quickly became known to me as the land of coffee. i’m not sure what makes it a latte capital but it’s certainly in good company with other cities that have similar roasting inclinations. though i had been to the area twice before, this trip really showed me all there is to love in los angeles. it’s quite a diverse city with tons of microhoods and a lot of local pride. on this particular day my mom and i spent most of our time by the water in venice and santa monica. for lunch we met my cousin scott in downtown at towne and not only was the lunch impossibly delicious (yes my mom was right, i should have taken a photo) but it was also very special that we spent time together. this day i felt like the only thing missing from my outfit was a pair of sandals. it was so warm that they felt like a necessity, even though my pedicure is leftover from christmas… the warm weather had most people in a good mood and i can see why. it must be easy to take this lovely weather for granted, however, when you’re coming from the ice cold and snow, every day is a treat. everything during this day seemed to be an adventure, from poking around small streets to breaking for coffee, we got to do so much.

highlights:

toast, towne, lemonade, intelligentsia, novel cafe, and loteria grill.

urbanic paper, firefly, and satine

venice beach, santa monica, brentwood
