when i was born in ’91 it was mother’s day and delta burke was the host of snl. quite a few years later here we are celebrating on the same special day but kristen wiig is hosting and we’re eating dinner at julian’s rather than at women and infants. it was special all around and i feel so lucky for all of the love in my life!

i came home this weekend as sunday is both mother’s day and my 22nd birthday. it’s hard for me to believe the i turned 21 a whole year ago. i was so excited about this despite not knowing what the last 12 months would entail. well, it was fantastic and everything that i could have hoped for. though i never feel quite different when i wake up each may 12th there’s something new and fresh about a birthday. tomorrow i’m celebrating with my family at julian’s and am really hoping for a little bit of relaxation… and perhaps some strong coffee. see you on the other side!

i’m ashamed that i’ve been completely lacking in what i post to this section, sorry. luckily i have a great restaurant to share with you this time and hopefully next time i’m home i’ll write up a few more! the grange, which opened several weeks ago in providence’s west side, is absolutely perfect. the decor insists a vibe just like relaxing at the home of an old friend. that is if you have a friend who knows how to seamlessly decorate with reclaimed pieces and doesn’t seem at all pretentious. and the food! who could forget the food? i like to think of their menu as select, not small. my mom and i ate from the day menu, which is comprised of lovely brunch-y options such as: tofu breakfast tacos, poached fruit with yogurt, and a soup du jour (mine was lentil mushroom). after the meal we stopped by the coffee window where i indulged in an artfully brewed soy latte and oh it was good. this nook is positively adorable as you can either access it by crossing the dinning room or from the side entrance if you’re just stopping by. one last thing… the staff was very friendly, which isn’t something you typically get with these sorts of places, just saying.

ice cream, outdoor farmers’ markets, blossoming flowers, cookouts, bare legs… those are just a few ways that we know spring is here. this was one of the first days that i got out after being really sick and boy way it a good one. the sun was shining so i threw on this surf suit-inspired dress, neat sandals, and venice beach sunglasses for the ultimate springtime ensemble. can i talk about these sunglasses for a second? they’re my first pair with a prescriptions and now i can’t believe that i ever lived without them. i usually wear my glasses when i need to see things far away or during the evening so i never figured that i would need extra special sunglasses. oh how wrong i was. of course this revelation frightened my mom but i simply couldn’t get over how great they are. now all i need is to play some pet sounds and i’ll be transported to sunny california.

and one of my very favorite jackets has returned! while packing for my trip (you’ll see where i am shortly) i was looking for this beauty and couldn’t find it anywhere! imagine my surprise when i found it sandwiched in a pile of blankets in the basement. go figure. i’ve worn it many different ways and each time just gets better and better, i may even wear it on the plane, we’ll just have to see! with this ensemble it served as the most natural neutral to calm down these ridiculously vibrant pants. while walking around main street i felt like a walking target and definitely caught some glares but fashion is about finding what works me and sometimes that means pushing my limits to expand my comfort zone. and who gives a damn what anyone thinks anyway? at the end of the day you only have to answer to yourself.
