i love paris, i really do. after spending a semester really living in the city i feel a bizarre connection that i don’t think i would have otherwise. it’s impossible for me to believe that this point in my life was almost a year ago but it was. when my parents surprised me with this trip i couldn’t even believe it– i was going to berlin, where i had never been before, and paris, where i couldn’t wait to get back to! this time around my mom and i got to do exactly what we wanted to without the pressure of feeling like we needed to see certain things. of course we revisited d’orsay and sacre coeur but that’s because we wanted to, not out of guilt or pressure. though we got to a lot of fun things, this was definitely the more relaxing leg of our trip, except for that time that i got pooped on by a bird. yup, you heard that right. i was so excited to show my mom around st. martin’s canal and while i stopped to take a photo of some awesome graffiti i felt something hit my head. i said, “ow, that hurt” and figured that it was a nut or something. luckily a few minutes later my mom noticed it and managed to get me a blowout at a salon down the street. this was the first time this has ever happened to me and though i felt like i was going to throw up, my mom helped me stay calm and the rest of our trip was fantastic. see you later paris!

i visited berlin for the first time last week and it has quickly become one of my favorite places. the city is full of imposing buildings, communist charm, and that brooklyn ease. for the first two days of our trip my aunt and cousin joined us, which made this extra special. we took an evening boat tour, walked around the old city, and had one of the best vegetarian dinners ever. on our second day we spent the greater part touring jewish berlin and this was particularly emotional. for the next two days my mom and i divided our time strolling the prenzlauer berg, kreuzberg, and neukölln neighborhoods–drinking lots of coffee, admiring the architecture, and people watching. i was completely overwhelmed by how cool berlin truly is. there is so much to do and see and i cannot wait until i can go back. and now let me barrage you with my photos!

well you guessed it… i was in berlin + paris last week with my mom! more photos to come after lots of sifting as we just returned home late monday evening but here was one of my favorite looks from the trip. i wore this on the plane if you can believe it but it’s truly a great travel outfit because it’s comfortable and goes through security quite well. until next time paris!

why am i wearing all of this gear if it doesn’t seem to be raining in any photos? last tuesday was miserable and dreary in nyc but somehow the sun miraculously appeared after the lunch my mom, aunt eileen, and i shared at bliss in williamsburg. after beginning the day at lalo in the rain things weren’t looking so great but surely enough we still managed to have fun. i mean seriously, are we supposed to stay inside all day just because it’s raining and yucky? i don’t think so. once in brooklyn we stopped at catbird, mast brothers, word bookstore, one girl cookies, powerhouse arena, and dewey’s– it was a long day that included a lot of traveling but it was really fun! in the evening we visited the strand bookstore where dear friend ann hood was speaking alongside chris castellani (can’t wait to grab his books!!). though my mom and i later discussed everything that we dislike about author events (i.e. pretentious questions, horrible introductions, etc…) it was a special treat to listen to such fabulous writers! to end this fun evening my mom and i had dinner at saigon market and dessert at momofuku. yummy! when i asked my mom how much walking she thought we did her answer was roughly eight miles. wow. and now i know why i’m still tired.

my mom and i took a trip to new york earlier in the week and it was so much fun! monday we walked around the east village, stopped into the warby parker annex, had dinner at zen palate with my aunt, and saw lucky guy later in the evening. this play was truly outstanding! combined with nora ephron’s keen dialogue and a superb cast, it is a must see. i’ll admit that i knew nothing about the play before going but when my mom said the words tom hanks, nora ephron, and courtney b. vance i was in! i couldn’t believe that i was actually sharing airspace with such talented people, it was truly surreal. i can’t believed that i schlepped around all day in this outfit because it truly belongs to a lazy person. i felt part french grandfather and part yukon warrior but wasn’t planning on changing anytime soon. whenever my mom and i are in nyc we always load up our schedule and needless to say, by the end of the day we were so tired.
